Yes they can, because they can log onto your router using its default password, then change to password to their own. All routers have a default password easily found on google. So next time you try to access your router for internet you don’t know the password. They wouldn’t add anything to the router, but can change the settings. the good news is that you can simply press the reset button to reset everything, then set your own password.
