Can I have a group of clients connected thru the VPN router without assigning the “server” function to any of those computers or do we always have to pick one for the “VPN server” job?
I´m thinking of buying a VPN router instead of a regular WiFi router so the whole family can be in the same network, though in four different homes, one of them over 300 miles away, but I want to keep it simple as would be a regular wireless LAN, without a server computer.

Iam not sure about connecting thru a VPN Router. But if you have an ISA firewall, you can connect different VPN Users to your network. But make sure that all user have dial in permission.

What you you are trying to do can be done, as I’ve done it more than once. The router will handle the VPN access and authentication. With the VPN access setup properly, you will be able to share files, no matter how far away the clients are.
The router i’ve used all in all of the installs was the Linksys WRV54G. It has the router, VPN and wireless functions that you are looking for. You can find out more information about it at:
