Political correctness – server is a gender-neutral term, waiter and waitress aren’t.

IDK it is just a label. Let it go. Calm down. Possibly they are called it because they are serving you. Stop making a big deal.

It does sound rather condescending.


But at the same time, they are basically your servants for the meal. Especially in more upscale restaurants, where they have someone just standing there, ready to give you another fork if you drop yours, and so on.

They’re called waiters/waitress here; have yet to hear them call servers.


What’s wrong with serving? Every job is serving your customer and there is nothing to be ashamed in it. There is great joy in helping and serving people. It’s only when certain people view your service as inferior to their ‘status’ that it can be a chore. Well, serving those people is a chore…
